Project Description
EllisDon was named the general contractor for the $115 million expansion and renovation of the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, one of Calgary’s most important landmarks. This was a complex project requiring renovation and expansion within and around the existing building structure.
The Challenge
The updates and modifications to the interior and exterior of the structure included a new front facade, upgraded interior mechanical and electrical systems, and reconfigured floor layouts. At the same time, the client required the work to meet specific objectives around accessibility, community impact, and sustainability. EllisDon was committed to delivering on these commitments all while staying true to the timeline and budget requirements.
The Outcome
- Effortless installation experience
EllisDon's project faced a challenging location, requiring precise camera placement on nearby buildings. Despite initial concerns, neighbors quickly granted permission after learning the process was non-invasive and required no effort on their part.
- Streamlined site visibility and progress monitoring
The Timescapes system streamlined project tracking by allowing site managers to visually verify milestones and monitor progress remotely from any device, reducing the need for constant site tours. It enabled real-time tracking of daily, weekly, and overall progress while using visual data to analyze and address unexpected issues.
- Enhanced trust and transparency
EllisDon built trust with the Glenbow Museum team by providing shared access to the Timescapes system, enabling the client to independently monitor project progress. The museum also used timelapse footage for PR and community engagement, enhancing transparency with stakeholders and the public.
- Improved safety and security
Real-time monitoring was essential to worksite safety and security. Regardless of the site manager being on or off-site, the Timescapes system enabled immediate verification that health and safety protocols were in place and being followed.
